TAXI WARNING: Some taxi drivers at the border crossings, airports, train and ferry terminals will avoid charging by the meter, instead they will ask you where you want to go and tell you a fixed price. In addition it's best to get a taxi from the official taxi stands rather than the individuals walking around offering services. Many of these people do not work with licensed taxi or limousine companies and they may attempt to take advantage of you by charging exorbitant prices. You should do some research about the estimated taxi fare to your destination before going.
In general it is a good practice to only accept rides from marked taxi cabs with meters. There are three kinds of taxis in Shenzhen identified by their colors: red, yellow and green. The red taxis can run long distances; the yellow ones can only operate in the special economic zone; and the green ones can only operate outside the special economic zone. The starting fare in Shenzhen is 12.50 CNY and only a few taxis take credit cards.

When flying into the Hong Kong International Airport there are many ways to cross over to Shenzhen, China. For a detailed article including the pros and cons of each option please click here. Below is a summary of the options.
Private Transfer (Cross-Border Services) - Estimated Cost: between 2,000.00 HKD - 3,000.00 HKD
Licensed cross-border limousines and dedicated English speaking drivers are expensive, but they're also by far the least troublesome way to cross the border. In most cases you will not have to leave the car, even when crossing the border. When looking for these services you'll want to ensure they say "Cross-Border" as this means the vehicle is licensed for both Hong Kong and China.
SkyPier Ferry - Estimated Cost: under 350.00 HKD
SkyPier is the ferry terminal inside Hong Kong International Airport for arriving passengers. The SkyPier has two routes to Shenzhen, the Shenzhen Shekou Terminal is closest to the hotel. The ferry ride and the taxi ride to the hotel each take about 30 minutes.
If you want take the ferry, you do not go through Hong Kong Immigrations nor collect your baggage. After arriving and exiting the gate, follow signs to the Transfers Area E2 or find the signs for Ferries to the Mainland. Here you can find the CKS counters to purchase your ferry tickets for 220.00 HKD.
When you buy your ticket, make sure you give the staff your airline baggage tags. They will collect your baggage and place onboard the ferry for you. One downside to taking the ferry is that you must purchase your ticket 60 minutes before the ferry departure time, therefore you may have an increased wait time. To view the departure times and pricing please click here.
By Taxi - Estimated Cost: under 350.00 HKD
As stated above, the distance, drive time and cost from the HKG airport to the hotel will differ. In addition, it is important to know that when departing from the Hong Kong airport during peak hours the wait time for a taxi can be extremely long but it usually moves quickly.
For taxi's, the closest border crossing to the hotel is the Lok Ma Chau - Huanggang Crossing (this is the only crossing that operates 24 hours a day). The big drawback for this crossing is the two immigration offices are separated by a long road/bridge therefore after going through Hong Kong customs you will have to buy a ticket and take a yellow shuttle bus to the China immigration building (about a 7 minute drive).
Alternatively you can opt for the Shenzhen Bay Crossing, which is the closest crossing to the Hong Kong Airport (estimated taxi cost $200.00 HKD). The Shenzhen Bay Crossing is significantly easier than Huanggang Crossing because both Hong Kong and China immigration officers are located in the same building and it's a newer more organized checkpoint (open from 6:30am to midnight daily).
If you should select this option please be sure to read the above taxi warning for awareness.
Cross-Border Coach Services - Estimated Cost: under 250.00 HKD
The coach services generally will take you to select drop-off locations in Shenzhen via the Lok Ma Chau - Huanggang Crossing or Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint. The coach company will determine the border crossing to use based on your drop-off point, which will most likely be the Huanggang Crossing if you're dropped off close to the Ritz Carlton hotel. Coach services generally operate every hour from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm with the fares ranging around 100.00 HKD to be dropped at the border crossing (and take a taxi to the hotel) and 180.00 to 220.00 HKD to be dropped at many Shenzhen locations.
Service counters for cross-border coach services are located at the Hong Kong Airport Terminal 2 counters C10 to C14 (follow signs of Mainland Coaches). These counters are operated by different companies and they have different routes and drop-off points available. Make sure you check with each company to see what works best for your desired destination in Shenzhen.
The hotel provided a flyer for their preferred shuttle bus company. To view the flyer, which includes pricing, contact information and departure times please click here. The Eternal East bus seats 7 (with one piece of luggage each) and from the Hong Kong airport the bus will go through the Shenzhen Bay checkpoint. The hotel has informed us that when using the Eternal East bus service you will not have to depart the bus to go through customs. In addition this bus will drop you off in front of the hotel. If you would like to utilize this bus service their counter is located at A12, Level 5, Exit A, Arrival Hall, Terminal 1 of the Hong Kong airport. Please contact Eternal East directly using the information provided within the flyer and be sure to inform them that you would like to be dropped off at The Ritz-Carlton, Shenzhen hotel.
Public Bus and Metro (MTR) - Estimated Cost: under 100.00 HKD
This option is not advised as it is a lengthy process that includes several bus stops, ticket purchase transactions, metro stations and a lot of walking with your luggage through crowded areas. The above linked article provides very detailed instructions to get you started, but you will also have to do quite a bit of your own research. The closest metro station border crossing to the hotel is the Futian Checkpoint Station, which is a terminal of the Shenzhen Metro Longhua Line. If you do choose this option please keep in mind this is an extremely large public transit system with many different lines and interchanges.
All pre-registered attendees and late on-site registrants must check-in at the Broadband Forum desk in the hotel to receive meeting materials and name badge.
