A New Year and New Opportunities
Letter from the Chief Operating Officer
Author: Robin Mersh

The New Year brought the return of many familiar tasks; budgeting, vendor contracts reviews, staff reviews, meeting and event planning. After a very busy first six months in my role, I have learnt a lot and I am endeavoring to take that experience into the review and planning processes. My goal is to execute 2007 planning in the classic way: repeat what we do well consistently and rectify what we don't do so well. I am pleased to report that we have a lot of excellent work to build on.

Technical Committee Update
Message from the Chair
Author: Gavin Young, Technical Committee Chair

As 2006 draws to a close, the Atlanta meeting of the technical committee marked the publication of some significant new Technical Reports and very good progress on the development of other Working Texts that are key to the development of the broadband industry. The DSL Forum has evaluated around 1000 contributions from member companies during 2006. This has greatly facilitated progress and we are seeing increasing interest from other bodies in leveraging our work, especially as interest grows in IPTV and remote management of consumer devices.

Marketing Committee Update Message from the Chair
Author: Rich Cardone, Marketing Chair

In 2006 the DSL Forum aligned its marketing efforts around solutions - not technology - by focusing on three key battlegrounds in the next-generation network - the home, the access network, and the service control plane. The result was the creation and highly successful launch of the BroadbandSuiteTM (BBS) an end-to-end reference architecture that consists of three reference models: BroadbandControl, BroadbandAccess, and BroadbandHome.

BroadbandHomeTM SuperWebinar with LightReading - Feb. 20, 2007

The DSL Forum's BroadbandHome work is having a fundamental impact on the rapidly evolving market of telecom services delivered into the home - namely the remote provisioning, management and maintenance of home networking devices. By providing a common and simplified way to automate the home network, the DSL Forum's home networking architecture empowers service providers to reduce the cost and complexity of delivering services into the home, while improving ease-of-use and service experience for the customer.
