From Device Management to Ubiquitous Wi-Fi: How Service Providers Can Unleash the Connected Home Ecosystem
IEEE – September 2019
According to Strategy Analytics, smart home devices will overtake smartphones by 2021, with the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices predicted to reach more than 50 billion. Providing connectivity to these devices and managing their interactions presents a potentially lucrative opportunity for today’s service providers. However, connecting and managing these broadband-ready devices brings its challenges.
Smart devices are increasingly present throughout the home and office, with consumers and businesses alike demanding faster, more reliable connectivity. To enhance end-users’ connected experience, ubiquitous connectivity must be delivered to all corners of residential and commercial premises, all while ensuring seamless management of these connected devices.
This is critical if service providers are to unleash the full potential of the connected home ecosystem. Meeting this challenge head-on by arming service providers for the battle is Broadband Forum’s recently enhanced User Services Platform (USP) and new Wi-Fi experience standard, TR-181.
