Fremont, California, February 19, 2018: Pioneering development work in 5G, CloudCO and network virtualization was today cited by Kevin Foster, Chairman of the Broadband Forum as one of the key reasons for its growth in 2017, with the announcement of a further 14 new members.

Operators and vendors, as well as fellow industry bodies and national associations, are among the new sign-ups, demonstrating the breadth and relevance of the Forum’s work across the whole broadband industry.

“This year has seen a significant increase in membership which reflects the growing role of fixed networks in emerging technologies such as 5G and the Internet of Things, leading to a movement towards a more holistic converged network,” said Foster. “These are key areas of focus for us, along with bringing greater efficiency to operators’ networks through virtualization technologies which can also enable new business opportunities.”

... PON virtualization enables rapid delivery of new services such as 5G fronthaul ...

New Orleans, USA – December 6, 2017: The Broadband Forum today announced it is working on a landmark project with NTT to standardize the virtualization of operators’ PON networks to support the delivery of Time Critical Applications (TCAs), such as 5G fronthaul.

The project, which was initiated by Forum member NTT, one of the world’s largest service providers, looks to open up new business opportunities for operators and vendors by using network virtualization technologies such as Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) to cost-effectively upgrade their PON networks to enable the rapid introduction of new services. This includes the key issue of fronthaul for 5G services, adding to the Forum’s ongoing work on the convergence of fixed and mobile networks.

“As users’ usage changes, both in regard to the different services required and the amount of data coursing through fiber networks, operators need to update their PON networks, including by adding TCAs,” said Akihiro Otaka, Executive Manager at NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories. “This used to require the remake of PON equipment for each service, but should be done via a software upgrade in the near future to improve cost-effectiveness. With demand for this increasing, it is important we ensure there are standards in place to achieve a vendor-agnostic system and ensure mass deployment of this new system architecture, which is essential if we are to deliver agile and flexible next-generation broadband networks for emerging services.”

The project – PON Abstraction Interface for TCAs – looks at how SDN and NFV can be applied to Optical Line Terminals to disaggregate PON functions to functional modules with open interfaces. The first phase will define the disaggregation policy and functional requirements of interfaces to disaggregate PON functions which need time-critical processing, while the second phase will define the detailed specifications of the interfaces as Application Programming Interface (API) sets.

The project has already attracted a number of new members to the Forum, as the industry becomes more focused on how the fixed network can help deliver 5G.

“Delivering new services efficiently and cost-effectively is a priority for the whole industry and this project will play a key role in realizing this objective,” said Arief Mustain, Executive General Manager at Telkom Indonesia, one of the new members involved in the project. “This is particularly true as the industry moves towards 5G and standardization will play a big part in making this new mobile technology a success.”

The project was just part of the activity at the Broadband Forum’s quarterly meeting taking place this week in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“As we work to meet the demand for new services, faster connectivity and more bandwidth, our focus is shifting from the fixed network to a holistic broadband network,” said Robin Mersh, CEO of Broadband Forum. “We know fiber will play a huge role in the delivery of 5G and this project looks to define that role and make it possible for operators to offer fronthaul services, among others, via their PON networks. Tauxigny, France, November 13, 2017: Leading industry names from across the globe came together to accelerate the development of PON technology at the second XGS-PON Interoperability Plugfest.

XGS-PON is based on the ITU-T’s latest Recommendation (ITU-T G.9807.1), providing a symmetrical 10Gbit/s capability over a fiber infrastructure that can co-exist with legacy 2.5Gbit/s G-PON.

Organized by Laboratoire des Applications Numériques (LAN), in collaboration with the Full Service Access Network (FSAN) Group and the Broadband Forum, this year’s Plugfest focused on interoperability between XGS-PON Optical Line Terminations and Optical Network Units (ONUs), as well as the coexistence between various PON technologies, including G-PON and NG-PON2. Participating companies included ADTRAN, Broadcom, Calix, CommScope, Econet, Huawei, Intel, MT2, Nokia, Sagemcom, TiBit Communications and ZTE.

“Since we held the first Plugfest last year, momentum around PON has been growing and this second event underpins the wider activities being carried out,” said Thierry Doligez, Director of LAN. “The industry is very much working together to ensure that when it comes to deploying PON technologies, operators have a wide choice of interoperable solutions and can deploy the technology cost-effectively.”

All equipment vendors, FSAN and Broadband Forum members were able to improve the interoperability of their products by testing them against other solutions presented during the event. This was to the major satisfaction of the supporting operator members of these organizations, among which was Orange as a contributor to the test plan.

“Efficient interoperability testing and its next step ONU certification process is essential to Orange before envisioning any significant deployment of a technology generation,” said Christian Gacon, Director of Wireline Network and Infrastructure at Orange Labs. “XG(S)-PON test events prove the basic standards sanity check and enable the next step consisting in common technical specifications amongst major operators worldwide to focus the industry towards a bulk first market for the technology.”

For the Broadband Forum, the Plugfests are an extension of its PON interoperability activities, which include the BBF.247 G-PON and XG-PON1 ONU Certification program, which is being extended to include XGS-PON and NG-PON2.

“The latest Plugfest further extended our work in the field of PON interoperability, addressing the need to secure both maturity of the ITU-T Recommendations and provide a migration path to operators,” said Robin Mersh, Broadband Forum CEO. “The large number of engineers this Plugfest attracted, from an impressive breadth of companies, highlights that collaboration and standardization is incredibly important for the broadband industry as we move towards the next generation of fiber access.”

... First-of-its-kind specification, new Open Broadband projects enable cloudification of broadband ...

Helsinki, Finland – September 14, 2017: The first standard for distributed virtualized Customer Premises Equipment (vCPE) has been published by the Broadband Forum as it continues to accelerate its work on Open Broadband, Cloud Central Office (CO) and SD-WAN.

The virtual Business Gateway (vBG) (TR-328) accelerates the delivery of new-generation standardized, carrier-class, interoperable business services such as enterprise class firewall and Wide Area Network optimization.

SD-WAN, spearheaded by the Open Networking User Group (ONUG), is enabled by the vBG, which connects to other Broadband Forum initiatives such as CloudCO and the Network Enhanced Residential Gateway. The completion of the landmark specification comes at the same time as the Forum begins work on two major software projects for Open Broadband and makes significant progress on its CloudCO project.

“As operators look to transform their networks with greater use of software and virtualization, demand for solutions, such as the vBG and CloudCO, with these associated reference implementations and API’s is growing – the market is now ready for standards-based software deliverables for Open Broadband,” said Robin Mersh, CEO of Broadband Forum.

The vBG system enables greater efficiency in service provider networks by virtualizing some of the functionality of a Business Gateway into a flexible hosting environment, which may be located at the customer premises, in the operator's network, such as a CloudCO, or using a combination of the two.

This simplifies customer-located equipment and customer self-provision through a portal, rapid introduction of new services, decommissioning of unsuccessful ones and up-selling value-added services. All of this can be done without the need to deploy specialized hardware devices to remote enterprise sites.

The CloudCO User Managed Objects Framework project creates a cloud-based user interface framework, and a user managed oriented objects template that can be used by all providers. This aims to satisfy customer requirements such as SD-WAN, where the customer wants to have WAN resource telemetry in the user browsers, portals, and for use by their applications. This project will leverage and extend the Forum’s work on the vBG and will use standardized API’s such as DMTF Redfish.®

The second key project is Broadband Access Abstraction Open Source which addresses the requirements, architecture, design, and software required to support the virtualization of access device functionality and enabling an open and interoperable unified management interface for access equipment from different vendors. This project will be managed under the Forum’s agile Open Broadband software initiative, allowing for member and non-member

participation to create a fast feedback loop between the specifications and the source code reference implementation that supports them.

The two new software projects are the first open source initiatives undertaken by the Forum and are spearheaded by groups of key operators and their manufacturer partners.

The vBG was published and the Open Broadband projects were launched during the Broadband Forum’s Q3 meeting, sponsored by Nokia, which took place in Helsinki Finland.

Fremont, California, 6 September 2017. The Broadband Forum announced today that the number of certified-interoperable Gfast solutions has jumped from 7 to 24 in less than three months, as mass deployment of the ultrafast access technology builds.

ADTRAN, EXFO and Viavi have been added to the list of companies whose products have successfully completed the Gfast certification program from the Broadband Forum and University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL).

“From recent leading provider deployment announcements and analyst predictions, there is no doubt that Gfast is gathering momentum with the value of certified-interoperable systems well-recognized as key for mass-market provisioning of ultrafast broadband,” said Robin Mersh, CEO at the Broadband Forum. “Having only announced the first Gfast certification results less than three months ago, it’s great to see the certification program’s rapid and measurable progress.”

Lincoln Lavoie, Senior Engineer, Broadband Technologies, at UNH-IOL, said: “The certification program is driving cross chipset interoperability and performance at all levels including device software for management and control. Gfast testing has already been more rigorous than any previous certification testing and we are testing individual features more deeply than we have on any previous technology.”

ADTRAN, EXFO and Viavi join ARRIS, Calix, Huawei, Metanoia, Nokia and Technicolor, which were the first companies to achieve device certification supported by chip manufacturers Broadcom, Metanoia and Sckipio.

The Gfast certification is in accordance with the Forum’s IR-337 certification test specification. Testing is carried out at the Forum’s approved Gfast test laboratory at the UNH-IOL. The growing list of certified devices is available on the Forum’s Gfast certification page.

The broad range of industry expertise displayed by the new member companies highlights the continuously expanding breadth of the Broadband Forum’s work which has grown to include a strong focus on next-generation broadband technologies such as virtualization, Software Defined Networks (SDN), the Internet of Things (IoT), next-generation optical networks, 5G and Gfast.

Cross-device, cross-silicon interop demonstrates Gfast readiness for multi-vendor deployment ...

The Hague, Netherlands, June 13 2017. The Broadband Forum today announced the first six products to have successfully completed the Gfast certification program from the Forum and the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) – representing the next important industry milestone by signalling market readiness for multi-vendor deployment.

The Gfast certification – carried out by the Broadband Forum’s approved Gfast test laboratory at the UNH-IOL – is in accordance with the Forum’s IR-337 certification test specification, reducing costs and accelerating time-to-revenue.

“Interoperable standardized Gfast technology is key because it underpins an ability to deliver next generation ultrafast broadband at scale,” said Kevin Foster, General Manager, Architecture and Innovation for BT. “Certification to the Broadband Forum’s Gfast requirements provides a known level of confidence and will reduce test time for both network operators and their communication provider customers.”

Listed alphabetically, ARRIS, Calix, Huawei, Metanoia, Nokia, Technicolor have worked with the Broadband Forum and UNH-IOL to achieve the Gfast Device Certification.

The first set of certifications include products based on chipsets from Broadcom, Metanoia, Sckipio, ensuring service providers will have choice of products, form factors, and features. The full list of certified devices is available on the Forum’s public site Gfast certification page, which will grow over the coming months, as additional certifications are achieved.

Lincoln Lavoie, Senior Engineer, Broadband Technologies at UNH-IOL, said: “The certification represents an outstanding technical achievement with hundreds of rigorous tests of the stability, functionality, control, and performance of Gfast systems and thousands of hours of close technical collaboration over many months between the lab and all of the companies involved. The program’s certification of these products has played a significant role in understanding and improving the implementation of Gfast.”

Additionally, the UNH-IOL has made the Gfast test automation software commercially available,  which controls the Telebyte test and measurement equipment, enabling device manufacturers to easily pre-test in their own labs and service providers to easily regression test software updates from their suppliers.

Service providers worldwide are deploying Gfast to deliver gigabit faster over existing wiring, bringing ultrafast broadband to more users, significantly reducing the cost of the final connection into a home or business in comparison to an all-fiber deployment. The high throughput of Gfast also increases customer satisfaction, reducing churn and driving revenue by opening new markets where fiber delivery is impractical.

The announcement of the certification follows the continued success of UNH-IOL’s Gfast Chipset & System Integrator Interoperability Plugfests – held in conjunction with the Broadband Forum – where engineers from 12 member companies continued testing the latest advancements to the ITU-T specifications and their Gfast products.

The Hague, Netherlands - June 13, 2017: The Broadband Forum today announced it has launched the Gfast Council to centralize and disseminate the expertise and experience of the Gfast market in order to facilitate the rapid deployment of Gfast implementations.  

Gfast is the new gigabit broadband access technology that deploys faster by extending fiber to existing wiring infrastructure. The Gfast Council will inform the market through events, white papers, use cases and other resources.

“Consumers want ultrafast broadband speeds and they want them immediately. In many cases, Gfast offers service providers the best chance to meet this requirement,” said Broadband Forum CEO Robin Mersh. “The Council will be the center of expertise in Gfast and as such will work to show how Gfast fits into the bigger gigabit broadband picture covered by the Forum’s work.”

The Council will also promote the Gfast Certification program, which today announced the first certified, interoperable products, to help accelerate the availability of interoperable solutions and expedite timely integration with service providers’ networks.

“Gfast has become an essential tool for service providers,” said Michael Weissman, Chair of the Gfast Council. “The Gfast Council combines the collective intelligence of 150 members of the Broadband Forum to make the rollout of Gfast deployments faster and more successful.”

Open to all Broadband Forum members, the Council will represent the Broadband Forum and the Gfast community Broadband Forum and at industry events such as today’s TNO Ultrafast broadband event in The Hague.

The formation of the Gfast Council follows the creation of the NG-PON2 Council by the Forum earlier this year.

Work on acceleration of CloudCO and high-value 5G use cases are key highlights of the Q2 meeting supported by Chunghwa Telecom ...

TAIPEI, Taiwan - May 18, 2017: The Broadband Forum today announced it is making significant progress on five projects relating to the realization and implementation of Cloud Central Office (CloudCO), which is scheduled for later this year. Preparations to stage and test the implementations are also under way at the first Open Broadband Lab, in Asia, announced earlier this month.

The CloudCO projects encompass architecture and hardware, as well as software implementation and migration. They represent one of the first use cases for the recently launched Open Broadband initiative, which provides a new platform for the integration and testing of broadband-related services.

The Forum is also focusing on the most promising use cases in 5G networking, such as hybrid wireless wireline networking in access and home networking, network slicing and projects for backhaul and fronthaul transport.

Several other aspects of the Forum’s Broadband 20/20 vision have seen excellent participation and momentum, including the evolution of TR-069 into a User Services Platform for premises’ networks and compute resources – for example, entertainment and the Internet of Things (IoT) for home workers – which remains on track for release later this year.

Broadband Forum CEO Robin Mersh said: “Perhaps the most important contribution we can provide to the industry is to keep an unwavering focus on the implementations of new technologies that have the most promising business cases. From this, we can bring our technical innovation to show how each can be introduced into the market and holistically managed to the benefit of all stakeholders. The meeting’s opening plenary also featured a keynote presentation from Dr. Rong-Syh Lin, Vice President of Telecommunication Laboratories, at Chunghwa Telecom.

Operators must find ways to deliver ultra-fast speeds at a faster time-to-market, while still keeping costs low. During the meeting, the Broadband Forum actively participated in the Broadband and Narrowband Convergence for IoT Realization Symposium, organized by the Institute for Information Industry (III) and the Industrial Development Bureau of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Several specifications were approved at the meeting, including TR-390, which defines standardized mechanisms for performance measurement, giving service providers greater insight on how their access network is performing.

Partnership will establish the Open Broadband Laboratory Asia to accelerate network evolution to cloud services ...

Beijing, China, 2 May 2017. The Broadband Forum and SDN/NFV Industry Alliance today announced they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly set up an Open Broadband Laboratory Asia (OBLA) and promote the development of network transformation and cloud evolution.

The partnership – which was signed during the China SDN/NFV Conference in Beijing last week – also introduces the Forum’s Open Broadband initiative, with a mission to create an open framework for cloud-based broadband. Open Broadband Labs are a collaborative resource for the integration, staging and testing of open source, commercial software, standards-based and vendor implementations where suppliers, integrators and operators can work together on new and coexisting solutions. The focus of Open Broadband Labs, such as OBLA, is acceleration of go-to-market and go-to-production for new services and applications, and the migration from existing broadband infrastructures to cloud-based ones introducing NFV and SDN technologies.

Under the agreement, the Forum will exclusively license the SDN/NFV Industry Alliance to undertake the construction of OBLA in China and to conduct conformance and interoperability testing, migration best practices, technical due diligence and training around the project. The SDN/NFV Industry Alliance will build and manage the OBLA, while the Broadband Forum will provide technical direction, testing methods, a standards framework and domain expertise. The aim of the project is to develop network cloud standards verification, testing, solution conformance and a proving ground for new services.

“As operators look to bring the efficiencies of data centers and cloud technologies to the network, gradually transforming it to a software-based infrastructure, it is incredibly important that we speed up standards, testing, conformance and best practice to ensure smarter, programmable and faster networks that deliver leading edge capability for operators and world-class experience for their customers,” said Broadband Forum Chairman Kevin Foster, of BT. “This new lab facility is a strategic and natural evolution of the Forum’s ongoing work on virtualization and cloud, with almost every project in our current scope now connected to these next-generation network technologies. We look forward to strengthening this work with the SDN/NFV Industry Alliance.”

The OBLA builds on the Forum’s ongoing and completed virtualization and cloud projects, including the Network Enhanced Residential Gateway, which shifts functionalities from the Residential Gateway to the operator’s network, Cloud Central Office, Fixed Access Network Sharing, SDN in the Access Network, and the virtual Business Gateway.

This complements the SDN/NFV Industry Alliance’s focus on increasing the readiness in SDN commercial utilization and promoting the healthy development of the SDN industry.

“The lack of standards and a unified framework for Network Cloud and SDN is a significant problem, which leads to fragmentation in the industry and defeats interoperability, slowing the industry’s development. As one of the most important organizations in broadband, the Broadband Forum’s Open Broadband Lab can be the unified and standardized platform to address the fragmentation issues and resolve the problems the industry is facing,” said Mr. Wei Leping, President of the SDN/NFV Industry Alliance, and China Telecom Beijing Research Institute. “China SDN/NFV Industry Alliance is pleased to collaborate with the Forum to create the physical laboratory and verify the standardized framework, testing for interoperability and enabling application development based on this platform.”

Top accolades given to individuals helping to accelerate the Forum’s Broadband 20/20 vision ...

Chicago, USA, 28 March 2017: Two Distinguished Fellow Awards, which recognize individuals who have significantly contributed to the direction and success of broadband development and to the delivery of Broadband 20/20, were among the accolades presented during the Broadband Forum quarterly meeting in Chicago.

The first went to Barbara Stark, of AT&T – the first woman to receive the award –  who has been instrumental in much of the Forum’s work on Broadband User Services for many years. Michael Shaffer, of Nokia, was also presented with the award for his leadership on the Forum’s fiber networks activities, including the widely-adopted G-PON ONU Certification program (BBF.247).

Recognized for their exceptional contributions to the Broadband Forum through the Circle of Excellence Awards were Joey Boyd, of ADTRAN, and David Minodier, of Orange. Boyd was presented the award for his involvement in the delivery of the first YANG models at the Forum (particularly TR-355, which was developed for fiber networks management). Meanwhile, Minodier was honored for his role as the driving force behind TR-317, a landmark specification for Enhanced Residential Gateways that took the Forum into the world of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).

“In our current telecoms industry, knowing what you want to achieve is not enough – you have to be able to deliver on it quickly and efficiently and that is exactly what these individuals have helped the Broadband Forum to achieve,” said Kevin Foster, Chairman of the Broadband Forum. “The Forum is the product of its members and I am proud of how quickly all the companies involved in our work have been able to advance the Broadband 20/20 vision.”

There were also numerous recipients of the Outstanding Contributor Award, which is given to individuals who, during the previous year, went beyond the call of duty by making valuable contributions within the Forum’s Work Areas. The full list of recipients was:

  1. Guiu Fabregas, of Nokia, for working on Fixed Mobile Convergence, 5G, NFV and SDN
  2. Ron Insler, of RAD, with a focus on the Virtual Business Gateway specification
  3. Denis Khotimsky, of Verizon, particularly for contributing to the ICTP specification that supports the NG-PON2 standard
  4. Marcos Martinez, of Marvell, for working on the project for performance testing of powerline communications and the test plan for 1905.1/1a
  5. Marta Seda, of Calix, who was also heavily involved in the ICTP and YANG specifications

The Chicago meeting also saw the Broadband User Services Work Area continue to explore the requirements and test metrics for defining "carrier grade" home Wi-Fi – a service which would provide reliable connectivity for the end-user who expects to get the most out of their broadband subscription through their in-home network.

The Forum is continuing with the creation of a standardized and testable code base for the 1905.1 unified MAC for in-home networking technologies and recently inherited the nVoy certification program from the HomePlug Alliance in relation to this activity.

The Broadband Forum’s annual elections also took place at the Chicago meeting, with Ken Ko, of ADTRAN, and Aleksandra Kozarev, of Intel, voted on to the board. Tom Starr, of AT&T, Les Brown, of Huawei, and Manuel Paul, of Deutsche Telekom, also continued with the board as directors.

“We are delighted to have ADTRAN and Intel represented on our board,” said Foster. “The appointments of Ken and Aleksandra come shortly after we have further strengthened our expertise and experience with the formation of the new Executive Advisory Council, which has been an important step forward for the Forum.”

Council will focus on delivering the promise of this new technology ...

Fremont, California, 16 March 2017. The Broadband Forum today welcomes NG-PON2 Forum members, integrating the NG-PON2 Forum to create the new NG-PON2 Council, which will aim to accelerate the development of NG-PON2 technology as it continues to gain momentum.

Over the last 12 months, the Broadband Forum has been increasingly focused on NG-PON2 through its Fiber Access Networks Working Group. That work is a solid basis to take NG-PON2 to the next level with the founding of the NG-PON2 Council. The Broadband Forum believes, in addition to work on management and testing standards, industry stakeholders need to understand the capabilities of the technology and how it could help support ultrafast broadband roll-out.

“Having fostered the NG-PON2 Forum from its infancy to its leadership position today, as a premier assembly of vendors and service providers looking to widen the scope and broaden the market of NG-PON2 technology, I am thrilled to see the NG-PON2 Forum moving to the next level by becoming part of the Broadband Forum,” said Bernd Hesse, NG-PON2 Forum Founder and President, newly appointed Chair of the NG-PON2 Council, and Senior Director of Technology Development at Calix.

This integration comes at the same time as operators begin to show increasing interest in the technology. At the recent FTTH Council Conference 2017, it was noted that several operators are conducting lab or field trials, aiming for deployments in the near future. Northpower Fibre announced that it held the world’s first NG-PON2 demonstration in a live network, delivering 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) speeds over multiple wavelengths to hubs located in a business premises and residential home in Whangarei, New Zealand.

Dr. Vincent O’Byrne, Director of Technology at Verizon and NG-PON2 Forum board member, said: “I see the move of the NG-PON2 Forum into the Broadband Forum as recognition that not only is NG-PON2 technology a maturing technology, but of the industry’s interest in seeing NG-PON2 succeed. Establishing the NG-PON2 Council is an important milestone and a meaningful step for NG-PON2 and the industry.”

The NG-PON2 Council will work under the banner of the Broadband Forum, providing greater access to the Broadband Forum’s wide range of member operators and vendors. The integration will be finalized after the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC) in Los Angeles, where the NG-PON2 Forum will hold a workshop session.

Broadband Forum CEO Robin Mersh said: “NG-PON2 is at a crucial stage with significant moves beginning to be made by operators in terms of deployments. Ultrafast access is a key component in the future of broadband and NG-PON2 has a role to play in delivering it. The Broadband Forum sees education and positioning for the technology as a key step in its evolution.”

Industry experts to help guide the Broadband Forum to bridge the digital divide ...

Fremont, California, 6 March 2017. The Broadband Forum today announced the formation of a new Executive Advisory Council bringing together industry leaders to help ensure that the Forum delivers direction to the broadband industry in a fast-changing environment.

The creation of the Advisory Council originated in discussions at the Forum’s Special Meeting, held in Atlanta last year, which saw the development of a new operational model and immediate actions to leverage new technology and approaches to serve the business requirements of the stakeholders in the broadband market.

“The idea of the Advisory Council came from the recent changes in the industry; there has been a paradigm shift both in terms of technology and methodology,” said Broadband Forum CEO Robin Mersh. “This raises the question of what sort of deliverables are needed and, in any organization, it is always important to ensure the question of business value is central to your activity – this is what our new Advisory Council aims to do. Now more than ever, any work the Forum undertakes needs to have a strong business case and the expertise and experience of our new panel will help ensure this.”

The initial list of executives joining the Broadband Forum’s new Advisory Council includes:

Following its meeting in Atlanta and subsequent evolution, the Broadband Forum is putting an increasing focus on software and working with open source projects. This is helping to deliver on the Broadband Forum’s Broadband 20/20 vision, which focuses on specific new broadband home and business opportunities that leverage SDN, NFV, the IoT and ultra-fast technologies. The initial discussions with the Advisory Council will address this new direction as a priority.

With the rise of open source communities, new disruptive technologies and the rapid pace the broadband industry is evolving at, organizations working together like this is more important than ever.”
