Fixed-mobile convergence achieves visible benefits with 5G

Broadband took a new role due to the Covid-19 crisis. Home networks felt the pressure of increasing demand and users began to demand improvements in services. But the covid-19 also made visible the disparity in access. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) notes that 53 per cent of the world’s population is connected, which means that 47 per cent of the world’s population still does not have access to the Internet.
TeleSemana.com spoke with Robin Mersh, CEO of Broadband Forum about the work the organization is doing to scale up broadband deployment in a cost-effective way, the challenges brought by pandemics such as Covid-19, the future of broadband and the promised convergence with 5G.
